My strong passion for cooking has been the driving force behind my entire business. Growing up in a single-parent household with my three other siblings, was a bit challenging as I had to play the role of big sister. I was cooking for my entire family at just 10 years old. I still remember preparing my first dish, curry chicken, white rice, fried plantain and steamed vegetables. It proved to be a hit as they asked for a second serving.
I attended the Princess Margaret Secondary School and dabbled in Home Economics from 1st to 3rd form. When it was time to choose the subjects for CXC, I was hell-bent on not picking Food and Nutrition as I got tired of cooking at home and didn’t want to see another pot. Information Technology was my key focus. This class would be my escape from culinary. The number of students in the class was more than the department could handle, so the final decision was up to the teachers. Mrs. Hunte was the Food and Nutrition teacher during this period and she came to the class and called my name first. She said, “Renee dear, come and cook that lovely fish for us,” “why would you not want to show your talent in culinary.”
While in school, I was responsible for the deli section of the popular supermarket in my village. I made the juiciest meatballs, patties, burgers, chicken, and any other fast food that comes to mind and on a Saturday, I would prepare seasoned rice, goat water, not forgetting ham to be sold during christmas to the customers. After leaving school I went out into the world of work where I further planted my feet by selling breakfast at my workplace, which was well received by all of my customers.
Renée’s Fine Dining and Catering Service opened its doors in November of 2022, with five years of off premise catering experience under its belt. While working at Bodog as a Financial Services Representative, I gained Customer Service Certification and Customer Relation knowledge. I ran a small catering service part time for small events and provided breakfast and snacks for my colleagues.
Cooking was always my dream; however, due to me becoming a mother I was unable to go to the very top and I ventured into the Tourism Industry where my love for Digital Marketing was harnessed. I was a Technical officer within the Ministry of Tourism. Due to my drive for excellence and learning, I was Seconded to the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority. In the Authority I was known as a jack of all trades as I displayed the epitome of being a true team player. I became a Marketing Technical Officer as my resume’ expanded. My responsibilities expanded as I was the Social Media Marketing Officer who dealt with the official website www.visitantiguabarbuda.com, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Facebook pages, X/Twitter, Instagram , Tiktok and LinkedIn.
I am still an employee at the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and still manage to run Renèe’s Fine Dining and Catering Services. This only shows that the sky’s the only limit I want to achieve, and you can make your dreams come true if you work hard and be patient.
